Updates! If you're not seeing quite recent ones, try reloading- I update frequently.
8-4-05: My 29 gal paludarium won tank of the month for August 2005 on Cichlid-Forum! Cool. 5-31-05: I think I neglected to mention, earlier ... I got a shipment of fish. Gold occies (since I had all females), caudopunks (since the ones I had were ... at best, uninspiring, at worst possible hybrids), and a large group of Cyp. leptosoma "Bulu Point" (I sold the Utintas). They're all doing GREAT. The caudos replaced the leleupi in the 20 "C" because the tank was clearly too small for leleupi, the occies went in with my existing fish, and the Cyps are, of course, in the big tank. 5-24-05: Added dwarf hairgrass to the 2.5 paludarium, the 125, and the 29 gal paludarium. Added "Red Arrowhead" (Syngonium podophyllum var. "Regina Red") to the 2.5, and removed the java fern, which wasn't holding up well sans water. Moved the amazon swords from the right side of the 125 to the left and replaced them with a young Red Rubin - we'll see how that does. Oh, and put some Water sprite in the 29 and some "Candy Stripe Reed" in the pond. Phew! Also bought a Fluval 2+ for the 20D, which will soon have a 3D background (and my multis). 5-23-05: Updated most of the Notes pages. One of my lovely lovely Cyps is holding! 5-11-05: As I predicted I was away for a while but I'm now home, and just uploaded a new shot of the 29 gal paludarium, which grew in very well while I was gone. 5-3-05: We've come to exam times again, so I'm not updating quite as much, but I changed the index page over to the new colors. I'm not sure I love how it looks now, though. 4-16-05: Just as much is getting done as ever, but I keep forgetting to update here. Two new profiles, for Cyprichromis leptosoma and Neolamprologus brichardi. Along with new profiles (watch for one on N. caudopunctatus), I'm going to be rewriting some of the older, weaker ones. Also, I've improved the Articles organization - now, for example, a given L. stappersi article links to the others, to the profile, to the photos, and to the tank I keep them in, like those pages all do. 3-30-05: I'm improving the profiles a bit. And, Practical Fishkeeping printed my whole letter! With my name and everything! Very cool indeed. 3-29-05: Added some notes. I've been taking lovely shots of the new stappersi fry and their mother; I'll wait for a real knock-down stunner of a shot and post that. 3-20-05: After about five straight days of work, the page has been completed reorganized and the colors changed. I can't say I enjoyed making the change, but I very much like seeing it all done and pretty before me. 2-19-05: Added a couple of, I won't be modest, gorgeous meleagris photos to the mel photos page, which can be found in the 20 b section. Finally - photos that really show the beauty of this stunning species. 2-2-05: Finally sat down and actually did the work to switch all of the meleagris stuff over to their new home, and some brevis stuff into their old one. Also, I decided to drop the "lines" from the index page. 1-31-05: There have been a number of changes throughout the month but I failed to change the update log. Anyway, just now: improved the new index page, and posted an exciting new idea in the Plans section. 1-2-05: It seems as though all I do is update photos and button javascript, and never actually write anything anymore. I'll start up with that again soon, I swear! ... but not tonight. Tonight I updated all kinds of photos, improved a lot of buttons, and learned to use the white balance on my new camera. 1-1-05: The 6 page was due an update - lovely new photos on the Brevis Photos page! 12-29-04: Added some lovely photos to several sections. Is everyone enjoying the new buttons? 12-27-04: New 20A section - actually, I had a section up for this tank several months ago but took it down. Now it has new and fascinating inhabitants it's up again. Also added a bunch of photo pages to the 125 section - do you know what this fish is? 12-25-04: Check out the buttons below! Cool eh? Also - got a very very lovely camera for Christmas so there should be frequent photo updates for, erm, ever. 12-24-04: Minor front page changes. By the way - every single photo and image on this site (except the two banners, for Petfish and Aquarank, to the left - I made the shelldwellers.com banner) is mine. Cool, eh? And happy Christmas, etc etc. 12-22-04: Hosting finally all switched over. No more ads! And a domain name all to myself. ::stretches out, yawns:: 12-19-04: The fish are here the fish are here the fish are here! The Caudos and Cyps are in the 125, the Sumbu comps are in the 20 (soon to be a 29), and some additional meleagris and gold occies went in with their brethren. 12-15-04: Added hecqui and Golden Wonder info pages. 12-10-04: Minor changes. New fry pictures, for one. 12-5-04: Some clean-up stuff, including vastly improving the similis Fry Pictures page (EDIT: Fry photos can now be found on the Similis photos page). Check out the very last photo of the fish between six and eight weeks, I'm very proud of it. 12-1-04: Finished the look changes, and added photos to the 44, 7, 125, 10, 10a ... ok, almost every page. Updated the Soon Plans as well. 11-21-04: VERY significant changes in the look. I'll miss the occie buttons in particulat but now the page looks much less cluttered, and it should be easier to navigate. Added pictures to a number of the info pages, as well. 11-11-04: Been changing the look again. If you managed to catch the intermediate trial run of Heterandria formosa buttons that was up for at most 48 hours before I decided I hated them, you should be proud. Still looking for alternate color to the yellow. 11-8-04: Okay, fixed the 2003/2004 issue. Am reminded again of how idiotic that was. Also, have placed a hold on 12 C. leptosoma "Neon Head" from Neptune Aquatics - I feel much safer ordering from them than from some unknown store, and the prices are definitely excellent. 11-6-04: I created a Julidochromis transcriptus page. For those who haven't picked up on this, the unlabeled buttons at the bottom are direct links to the info pages on those species. Cool eh? 11-3-04: Okay, so I'm an idiot. Actually, the sad part isn't that I made buttons that said "2003 pictures" for almost every page, or that I created pages called "2003.html" to go with them, or that I instituted both as part of the changes. The sad part is I didn't realize for nearly seventy-two hours that the pictures in question are from - indeed, the current year is - 2004. Um, oops. 11-2-04: Still working on the update - feel free to email and tell me how you like/hate the changes! Also, voted. 11-1-04: HUGE update ongoing. So far have changed over this page, 125, 44, and 10 - am too tired to finish! Will do tomorrow. 10-31-04: I've gotten started on a big style change; so far only the 44 section is affected, as it takes a little while to implement, and the system definitely isn't perfected. However, this should ease navigation a good bit.
10-25-04: Visit Shelldwellers.com! You won't regret it! 10-24-04: Photo updating on the 7 and 2.5 pages, plus some talk about the new similis fry. 10-19-04: Heavy updating - the new 10A and 2.5 pages (the new Occie tank and the H. formosa Minibow, respectively), lovely new julidochromis shots and the new hecqui shots on the 44 page, a new shot of the 125 and one of the 20, some new shots of Carson, and basic restructuring here and there. 10-11-04: Drove up to The Fish Place in Buffalo (it's an incredible store, worth a visit if you're within 100 miles). They didn't have Denisonii barbs (sob, sob) and I decided not to buy any Glowlight Danios (D. choprae) but I did score ... 6 Lepidiolamprologus hecqui! Very excited about these guys. Also a few small pieces of driftwood for the 2.5 setup I'm working on.
9-27-04: Yellow. 9-25-04: Changed one set of buttons (but not to anything radical) and created an ocellatus info page. Also some new Similis photos and revamped the Info page a bit. Now I need to finish up the Endler profile - and the goldfish pages, that may take a while! And I need to walk down to Petco and get something frozen or freeze-dried to tempt my similis male, the silly cow. 9-17-04: Finished the changes, although now I find myself eyeing the buttons. Hmm. Well, info pages on the Clown Killies, Occies, and Endler's to come before I mess with the buttons. 9-16-04: Biiiig changes in the look - not 100% done but I'm tired, so I'll finish up tomorrow. Also some updates on the 7 and its inhabitants (of course). 9-3-04: More new Similis pictures on the 7 page. 8-21-04: Moved some fish and therefore made some site changes - like the meleagris page links off the 10 page now, and, also, the new "Info" page contains links to what I hope will be a growing number of species-information pages. 8-19-04: There's a Meleagris info page linking off of the 44 page, and there's a new 6 page for a tank I helped a friend set up. 8-13-04: It's come to my attention that everyone in the world except me hates "Justify," so I'm slowly going through and scrapping it. Oh well. 8-5-04: Information page on Similis and one on Multis - links from the 7 page. 8-4-04: A new Brevis information page (links from the 10 and 44 pages). I'm planning more pages of this type, and they'll get a front-page link to an index when there are enough of them. Also changed the buttons on this page and the 10 page, and the little motif in the upper lefthand corner. 8-1-04: Lots and lots of new fish pictures on the 44 and 10 pages, and new shots of the 125 and the 20. 7-28-04: Updated the 125 page heavily, the 44 page to reflect new stocking, the 20 page a bit, the 10 page to reflect new stocking, the 7 page to reflect two teensy new occupants, and the plans page. Possibly some others, who can remember? Starting to get prepped to take the 7 to school and send a Brevis pair off with a friend. 6-23-04: Updated the 20 page again (hmm, I'm making the other tanks seem neglected ...) because I spotted a teensy fry and had to photograph it. Also, great news: Bryn Mawr does allow fish tanks in the dorms. Yay! 6-17-04: Updated the 20 page - a replant and some additional lighting. Of course, the extra-bright look magnifies the imperfections as well as the pretty plants! 6-14-04: Minor site changes. Moved the four Brevis out to a tub (they turned out to all be male) and bought 6 brevis "Lunagwa" (F1) from the same store as my similis male (Neptune Aquatics, strongly recommended). They're doing very well, I need to remember to make a page for that tank. Also, bought a 5 gallon Eclipse "corner" tank (I finally own an Eclipse tank, wow!) for a pair of Aphyosemion bivittatum/bitaeniatium - very nice fish. Sold the Danio dangila so the meleagris have the 44 to themselves, and moved the danio out of the 10 gal. 5-23-04: No site changes, but totally rearranged the 44 (pictures coming soon), and set up a new 7 gal bowfront with four N. brevis. Hopefully, knock on wood - two females and two males so I can give a pair to my friend, but maybe that's asking too much. Frankly, considering the overabundance of male Brevis in the trade, I'll be thankful if I end up with a single female! 5-21-04: Added some nice meleagris pictures to the 44 page, and a new shot of the 20. 5-19-04: I'm home, and the computer's up and running. Updated the 20 page, the 7 page (similis arrived), and some Plans. More to come very soon, just curing some minor algae problems before I start taking pictures again. Also, pond page is gearing up, and photos of my Endler's tub should be taken pretty soon. 4-30-04: Added new pictures to the 44 Fish page, the 20 page, and really revamped the 10 page (after revamping the tank!) Last exam is 5/4, so as soon as I get the computer running at home, updates should go back to "too often." Bought a bunch of C. habrosus that I shouldn't have gotten for the 125. Updated a few of the Plans pages. Also, the big news: I got accepted for transfer to Bryn Mawr! I'm going to start repressing my year at UB the second I'm on the interstate home. 4-15-04: Pretty minor how-the-site-looks changes. A few should be pretty obvious (Blue replaced Puppyface in the upper lefthand corner, for one), some are just resizing things. By the way, for all those who wonder why I write in plain text and don't set a font or size: because I hate reading pages where the font and size are set. They're invariably the size you don't want, in whichever direction, and unpleasant to read. This way it's all up to you.
4-13-04: Updated 125 (big replant, new photo), 44 (fish photos and stock list), 20 (new tank shot, killi pics), and ... nope, c'est tout. 4-8-04: A little updating on the 10 page, and finally added the page for the 20 gallon Neon Tetra species tank. 4-5-04: Added some new meleagris pics on the 44 page and the most recent 20 shot on that page. Also, small updates to the Plans section and the 7 page - looks like my multis are spawning! Updates may be a bit less frequent for a while as exams are coming up and I'm now working on the weekends. Once the tanks are all moved home for the summer they should be more frequent, 40-hour work weeks or no. Picked up some Danio dangila (I'm working at a pet store for the summer) for the 44; will be moving the current dithers, gold long-fin danios, to the 10 (with either the ocellatus or the similis) and the tub (with whichever species isn't in the 10). 3-25-04: I feel like I did hours of updates and changes, but I suppose most of it isn't visible (backing up files, etc). What is? "Fish" page for the 10 now works, updated the 7 "Fish" page, and did some other minor things. Mostly, am preparing to launch big goldfish care section, but it may be a few weeks, motivated or not. Luckily, this week 'o' tests is drawing to a close, that should help. 3-23-04: Well, I'm trying to update all the stuff I can, but I'm still on vacation-mode and have two serious tests this week, so ... sorry about broken links, but they may be there until next week. The 20 page is up but none of the subpages for it, the 9 page is up but I can't get the photos to work, dunno why, and some more minor changes. From now on, although it's going to be a while until it's standard, the little picture at the top of every column of buttons goes here, and the blank button goes to the main page of that subheading, ie the main page for the 125 gallon or whatever. Also, bought some A. australe "chocolate." 3-19-04: After hours and hours of moving furniture all by myself (so ... exhausted ... can ... barely ... type ...), I've replaced the 30 with the 20, which has EcoComplete, a Hagen CO2 system (although I'm not buying any of their replacement packets, which are, let me spread the word, baking soda and yeast), the 55 watt from the 30, and all the 30's plants. Got a couple of shots of it pre-background, so I may snag another with the background on. Also, have gotten some really excellent (if I do say so myself) photos of the L. meleagris. BTW - the Clown killies are in the new 20 and the 10 is getting my Apisto pair when I return to the dorm. And I made the Dean's List. Not that that's fish-related, I'm just proud. 3-16-04: My six juvenile L. meleagris arrived this morning, healthy and happy despite the freezing temperatures outside the box. Since I don't want to have to worry about hybridizing, I've decided to move the L. ocellatus out to a shallow 10 gallon transparent plastic tub, and the new fish will have the 44. Since I'm home for a week I'll be taking lots and lots of new pictures, but I doubt I'll post any until I get back to the dorm. The new pages for the 20, 9, and possibly the above-mentioned tub should be up within 10 days, plus, knock on wood, updated info on the tank that was a 30 gal and will soon be a 20. 3-10-04: Totally reorganized 125 and Plans sections. Also, am starting to go through and tweak the design a bit, you can tell me what you think. 3-8-04: Saw a large calico comet someone had returned to the LFS and had to take him home to winter with our other pond fish. Rearranged the 9 gal to better complement the Endler's and will get photos of it soon. New Page! Plans, which has ... well, plans, for changes to the tanks and future tanks. 3-4-04 I shouldn't have, but ... new livestock. Two pairs of Endler's Livebearers (would trios have been better? Yes. Were they selling trios? No) and three Cherry Shrimp. So, the 10 page has been updated to include the shrimp, and the tubbing page has been updated to include my summer plans for the Endler's. For now they're in the 9 gallon hex mentioned waaaaay down at the bottom of this page, which may, due to its suddenly intriguing inhabitants, get its own page. If I can scrape the paint flecks off the sides and get some good photos, that is. 3-2-04 Changes: no new fish or plants, but a number of new pictures. The 44, 125, 10 (new!), and 30 pages were all updated, and the Tubbing page should be up quite soon. 2-25-04 I really update far too frequently. But anyway. The new buttons - 10, 20, and Tubbing - don't work. Yet. The 10 will pretty soon, as my new lights have arrived and so I'm beginning to take pictures. But, of course, it looks like any week-old plant tank. Terrible. Except for the months-old hairgrass lawn that I transferred literally by hand (scooping and dumping) from the 5. And the 20 page will be up as soon as I can convince my sister to take photos (she's a professional photographer, but does she take pictures of her fish for me? Oh, no) or let me take them. And the tubbing one, well, I'm not sure. I'm embarrassed by the current contents! Although once the pond fish can get back to the pond, it should be an interesting summering setup for a few Kribs that were nasty killers in my 44, but apparently have been through reform school when forced to live with giant and no doubt frightening goldfish. 2-23-04: Let's see. There's a working 44 page, pics of the Multis on the 7 page, a new Betta page for Carson (mentioned below as proof of my mother's growing fish-appreciation), a ton of new goldfish pictures on the 125 pages, and I'm prepping to scrap to 5 page in favor of the new 10 ... as soon as it's worth taking pictures of! 2-21-04: Just got a bunch of new fish: a pair of L. ocellatus "gold" for the 44, a trio of Multis, and 8 P. annulatus, Clown Killifish. Took a lot of pictures, too, and will update the site (as opposed to just the tanks) by Tuesday or so. 2-15-04: There's now a Fish page under the 125 subheading. Details on the four, oops, now five! goldfish. And really really tiny pictures, just because I could. 2-14-04: Happy Valentine's Day! New additions to page: this. New additions to tanks: Multis in the 7 (finally!), blue oranda in the 125, more Black Neons in the 30 (a dozen now), danio dithers in the 44 (12 of the gold variety), a nice blue superdelta in a vase in the kitchen (finally turning my mother to the wet side), and ... nope, I guess that's it. Next weekend, knock on wood: Apisto pair from the 5 to the 30, Clown Killies in the 5 (sort of, see note below), and N. ocellatus "gold" in the 44, along with a whole lot of shells, the latter thanks to spending "quality time" running errands with a high-on-chocolate parent. 2-3-04: The "Fish" page in the 5 section now works, and the "Fish" and "Shells" links on the 7 section. The rest I'll get to ... eventually. (Nov-03: The page goes up - in a VERY different form. Ugly, that is) |
